The locality of Genesee Park is still open and available for collecting. Fine specimens have been retrieved from the " collecting pit". My friend and associate, Brian Kosnar, reports that Rich Kosnar ( his father) found one of the finest floater grossulars, completely translucent, many years ago. Our large butterscotch colored crystal sits perched on several others, with well defined, lustrous faces, covered in part by a thin layer of pure white calcite. There is an occational abraded edge, which is to be expected from specimens collected many years ago. Collected by Frank Butler, on one of his many field trips. It was no easy trick to pry this piece out of his collection! I have a genuine passion for American garnet species, so I won out!
