A translucent, forest green crystal, terminated and well developed,with calcite crystals distributed across the surface, from this rare and unusual locality. New York State, once host to a variety of mineral species, has become fairly devoid of the variety of years ago, save the Herkimer Diamonds. An antique label accompanies the specimen that appears to date before 1900, showing a price of $.35. This specimen was previously listed as Augite, but it has just been determined that it is in fact diopside.
